PUEBLO, Colo. – On May 14, 2026, a Pueblo County jury convicted Ryan Ramos, 43, of multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the April 15, 2025, assault that ultimately resulted in the death of Rodney Carter. Ramos was found guilty of Murder in the First Degree (Class 1 Felony), Murder in the Second Degree (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Robbery (Class 3 Felony), Motor Vehicle Theft (Class 5 Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance – Fentanyl (Class 4 Drug Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (Class 1 Drug Misdemeanor), and Possession of a Financial Device (Class 2 Misdemeanor).
The court imposed a sentence of life without the possibility of parole in the Colorado Department of Corrections for the first-degree murder conviction. Ramos also received: three years in the Department of Corrections for motor vehicle theft, related to the stolen vehicle rented by the victim; six months in the Pueblo County Jail (PCJ) for possession of Fentanyl; 180 days in PCJ for possession of Methamphetamine; and 120 days in PCJ for possession of a financial device. All sentences will run concurrently to the life sentence.
On April 15, 2025, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Pueblo Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Main Street following a report of an assault. Officers located an unresponsive male who was transported to a local hospital. Ramos, then 42, was arrested shortly thereafter and initially charged with Assault in the First Degree with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Financial Device, and multiple outstanding warrants. Mr. Carter died as a result of his injuries on April 25, 2025, and the assault charge was elevated to Murder in the First Degree.
During sentencing, statements from the victim’s family were read to the Court.
